What is an Oil Sludge?

For an engine to look like this, implies that it has reached a notably grim condition. But how do engines reach such a dire state? Is this even normal? This is what we call an oil sludge build-up. They are usually stuck on the moving parts inside your engine, which may create a catastrophic buildup. This is often the result of engine oil contamination which occurs when moisture and/or high heat enters the engine oil. 

You might think that this only happens to cars with a higher mileage but you’re wrong!  Like cholesterol in arteries, oil sludge silently builds up and affects the engine. Even young bodies can have cholesterol issues so, it is no surprise that new cars can also deal with hidden oil sludge problems. 

How does Oil Sludge affect my car?

1. Decreased Efficiency of Oil Circulation:

Oil sludge obstructs the oil passages, hampering the smooth flow of oil to critical engine components. This leads to inadequate lubrication, cooling, and cleaning, ultimately affecting the engine’s overall performance and efficiency.

With compromised lubrication due to sludge buildup, engine parts experience heightened friction and wear. Components like pistons, bearings, and camshafts suffer accelerated deterioration, leading to premature failure and diminished reliability.
